The Los Angeles local, who has produced records for the likes of Merlyn Wood, Curtis Waters, and Asha Imuno, has debuted her first official single "Janet". With this track, Araya cements herself as a key player in the latest wave of impressive female producers.
Alé Araya is no stranger to the creative game. At the impressionable age of 5, she was introduced to the piano, igniting a passion for music that would eventually take her to incredible heights. As she grew up, she took on a handful of interests from photography to sewing, to drawing and painting. Although she has been writing and producing music for years, only last year did Alé begin to gain attention through demos she released on TikTok and Soundcloud. Three days ago, the 21 year old singer-songwriter and producer divulged "Janet", a beautifully composed track that puts her artistic prowess on full display.
Flaunting elements of hiphop, electronic, and R&B, "Janet" provides a lush, dreamy, futuristic club setting for the listener. Pillowy-soft synths paired with an energizing drum and bass arrangement kept me fully engaged through the whole track, with my ears locking onto Araya's ethereal and introspective vocal. Written and produced entirely by Alé Araya alone in her bedroom, the track explores ideas of womanhood, sexuality, and mental health. The artist says, "As a queer woman producer, taking up space in the music industry is provocative in itself, so I hope sharing this song with the world encourages other young women to do the same." Without a doubt, artists like Alé Araya will continue to push the art forward, and inspire others in their wake. With her EP coming out this fall, make sure to keep tabs on this exceptional young creative.
