HALFnHALF has graced us with yet another impeccably-crafted number. "Counting Sheep...", the group's second official release, is 3 minutes and 31 seconds of pure jazzy comfort.
It's 1:30AM on a Thursday night/Friday morning. You're in your East Hollywood studio that doesn't have AC but does have a ceiling fan that's trying it's best. You have one leg under the blanket and the other exposed. You can't sleep, and now your mind wanders towards that certain special someone. It's inevitable. "Counting Sheep..." by HALFnHALF is this situation embodied by a song.
The track begins with distorted guitar chords and some bass, followed by a simple drum groove that establishes the foundation. The vocals enter with a light, smoother approach that offers a nice contrast, and the duetting male and female singers create a message that feels universal. No surprise to those who follow the group, the whole track exudes jazz. From the tight harmonies and ad libbing happening in the vocals, to the movement of the bass, and especially the jazz piano section that appears in the final chorus, courtesy of Jack Cline. This tracks mixes the influence of jazz music with modern times, fusing the American-born genre with elements of hip hop, alternative music, and r&b.
HALFnHALF, formed in December of 2020, is comprised of four members: Daiela, Myles Anderson, Malcolm Huss, and Taj Cove. Each musician is insanely talented, with everyone's hands in the pot when it comes to the writing, producing, recording, and performing of their music. Currently based in West LA, the group partnered with Dylan Moran and Jack Cline to deliver this amazing performance. Check out the latest single from HALFnHALF "Counting Sheep..." now.
