Flowers And Flowers Fest, a Lonely Stoner Collective x Plant Bitch LA collaboration, was the perfect way to spend a Sunday, taking in genuine vibes from genuine people of Los Angeles.
What do you get when you mix live performances from LA’s best underground music talent, dozens of SoCal-based creative vendors, live painting installations, flash tattoos and tooth gems? You get Flowers and Flowers Fest. Presented to us proudly by Lonely Stoner Collective and Plant Bitch LA. Last Sunday’s wonderful amalgamation of music, art, and cannabis was refreshing and completely uplifting. Flowers and Flowers Fest debuted at The Office, a creative workspace close to USC in Los Angeles. The brainchild of Lonely Stoner Collective, a LA/San Diego based non-profit focused on uplifting canna-loving artists from everywhere, and Plant Bitch LA, a women-empowering plant business founded by Aryana Gathings, I had great expectations for the event. They were all no doubt exceeded.
I arrived at the festival at approximately 5:30pm. Everything was in full swing at this point, and the vibes were very very dank. Upon entry I saw a plethora of exciting creative vendors, from painters to clothing designers to an artist who creates limited edition plush collectibles, all connecting with festival goers and fellow creators. Tangerine, a local band on the ups, just stepped onto the stage, and thanks to traffic, my lateness turned out to be perfect timing. The group performed several of their songs, all of which were groove-inducing and awesome, namely an upbeat track with a slight latin feel called “Coconut”, recorded only 5 days prior to the performance. It Was Very Dope. Alongside Tangerine’s performance was their eco-friendly upcycled merch, handmade by group member Asé.
As I toured the rest of the hazy, cheerful space, I met several of the other creative vendors displaying their works. I met Coko, an LA based handpoke tattoo artist, who was offering very cute very dope flash tattoos for attendees looking to get some ink. Highly recommend you go see Coko (@artbycoko) at Pinky’s Tattoo & Piercing Shop in LA. I also met some reps from Biko (@bikoflower), a BWOC-owned cannabis company with deep community roots, that is serving up some of the best diamond-infused prerolls. In the corner of my peripheral vision I noticed a large, bright blue object. I turned to find a giant plush figure of a cartoon cloud. Instantly I was intrigued, and reminded of something I couldn’t exactly put my finger on. Once I spoke to the booth owner, I realized I was already a fan. I had been following his work for years already on Instagram. This artists name is Darius Graves, founder of American fashion label Daze In Blue (@dazeinblue). Having recently relocated to LA, the artist was stationed at Flowers And Flowers Fest selling their signature limited edition Kloudy Kumo plushes, along with clothing and high-quality Kloudy Kumo blankets.
As I continued through the festival, very happily faded at this point, I found myself in a dense jungle with chairs and homies sipping coffee. This was the botanical smoking lounge, a collaboration between Plant Bitch LA and Cup of Troy. Featuring a pop-up coffee shop from Cup of Troy, and plant walls full of Plant Bitch LA’s leafy greens, it was an idyllic setting for a cup of joe and a smoke. Here I was, sitting in a chair, enjoying a spliff, taking in all the vibes Flowers And Flowers Fest had to offer. Make sure you peep their pages, you'll definitely be wanting to go to the next one. Ciao.
