ill peach, the ultra-modern and musically inventive LA-based duo, has bequeathed their latest single and lyric video "BRIGHT LIGHTS" unto our hungry ears. Let Us Feast.
For those with a penchant for warped, fanciful, and invigorating musical compositions, look no further. ill peach, the Los Angeles-based duo has released their latest single “BRIGHT LIGHTS” along with a palpably captivating lyric video. The song toys with intersected ideas of doom and gloom and tenacious hope, as a vivid slurry of distorted guitars, magnificent drumming, and Jess Corazza’s enthralling vocals sweep through your ear canal.
Self-described “grit pop” duo ill peach, comprised of talents Jess Corazza and Pat Morrisey, has been steadily climbing the ranks since they released their debut EP “Excuse Us While We Find Our Minds” in 2021. Having met as musical theatre kids in high school, Pat and Jess were operating independently until college when they wrote a song together for a European pop star dubbed the “German Celine Dion”. After solidifying themselves as a duo, along with some creative friends, ill peach founded POP CAN RECORDS in 2020, an artist collective and independent record label consisting of some pretty phenomenal musicians.
“BRIGHT LIGHTS”, written by ill peach and Steph Jones, produced by Brandon Shoop, is an electro-pop song that features experimental rock attributes throughout. The production of this track is stellar, saturated with distortion and brimming with moving parts, this record is a beautifully harmonious congregation of divergent sonic elements. Drawing on themes of self sabotage, cynicism, and fluttering feelings of salvation, ill peach shares the message behind the track: “This song is about feeling discomfort in safety. When your home is chaos. When you finally get out of the muck and things start to brighten but that first feeling is terrifying because you either don’t know how long it’s gonna last or you don’t know if you deserve to be there. The ways we self sabotage. It’s a feeling that all of our friends expressed this year. So we wanted to write about that. It’s a way to feel connected with each other even if it’s through challenges. Taking a grip on optimism can feel unnatural sometimes.” Wow. Personally, I know I am guilty of self-sabotaging my own life almost every day. I'll mentally put myself down when things feel overwhelming or hard to achieve, sinking into the false sense of security of not trying. But alas, we persist and we prevail. Every Damn Time.
ill peach is one of thee most avant-garde rising artists of our time, most definitely a Pookie Favorite, and the fact that they recently relocated their HQ to Los Angeles makes me giddy with joy. Each of their records bursts with creative originality, and I eagerly await more news from this incredible duo. Get familiar with "BRIGHT LIGHTS" and check out the partnering lyric video, created by Lucy Sandler and Bucky Boudreau, which features grainy footage of the iconic Jess Corazza slaying on guitar, as well as cyber-psychedelic renderings of nature and geometry. Oh, and they're opening for Everything Everything at the Teragram Ballroom on November 18th in LA. You can bet your bottom dollar that Pookie will be there. Front Row.
