Memorex played their first ever live show in Los Feliz this past Tuesday night, and long story short, they definitely did not disappoint. A newly formed group with newly released material, their gusto and craft however is that of seasoned professionals.
Memorex, the newly formed LA based group comprised of Mykel Online and Maki Adams, has been steadily making a name for themselves in the City of Angels. This past Tuesday, August 30th, in the midst of a sweltering heat wave, Memorex’s first live performance significantly raised the temperature of the stage at The BlackRose in Los Feliz. A sizable group of onlookers watched with pure excitement as the duo’s strong stage presence captivated the entire room. Performing works from their recently released self-titled debut album, the pair performed “baptized”, a heavier song that explores desire, ego, and spirituality, as well as “echo“, an alternative indie track that gives King Krule vibes in the production. Memorex also performed fan favorite “care”, which features the wonderful Ayleen Valentine in the hook. The star duo closed their set with “brother”, a warm tribute song written by Mykel & Maki that celebrates genuine friendship and commonality. Hosted by We Found New Music, a music discovery platform that’s been boosting rising artists for the past decade, the night saw a few other recognizable names take the stage like Buppy, Dxcklin, Sweeney, and Octavio the Dweeb. Pookie was truly blown away by the presence and artistry of Memorex, and if this show taught me anything, it's that I'll definitely be going to all of their future shows from here on out. Wow. So Good.
