Pookie Attends: That Good Sh*t & Green Tea Studio's Sunday Sounds

Sunday Sounds, a high vibes music showcase brought to us by That Good Sh*t and Green Tea Studios, took place last Sunday Oct. 23rd in Lincoln Heights, LA. Pookie Went And It Was Dope.

If you’re the type that likes discovering artists before they blow up, look no further. If you’re someone looking for an underground music event with the freshest, dopest artists, and only top-tier energy, it’s time you learned about what’s been going on. Last weekend in Los Angeles, exactly what I have described took place. That Good Sh*t and Green Tea Studios joined forces to put on yet another completely stellar Sunday Sounds artist showcase. Sporting an enviable lineup and featuring an array of local LA vendors, notable acts included Selina, Amaria, Flozigg, Frex, and songbird Mallory Merk as the night's headliner. Sunday Sounds continues to lead the way as LA’s premiere underground artist showcase, putting community before industry, and uplifting smaller artists with huge potential.

Sunday Sounds, brought to us by Green Tea Studios and That Good Sh*t, held its 7th LA function in Lincoln Heights, at a bright and airy outdoor studio space courtesy of Hazy LA. This is the second Sunday Sounds show Pookie has attended, the energy and pure love for good music is what sets this event apart from others. Probably because the organizers, That Good Sh*t and Green Tea Studios, are some of the most down-to-earth individuals in the music industry. Green Tea Studios, run by an awesome guy named Barry, is a recording studio set 10 minutes from the beach in Santa Monica that focuses on accessibility and affordability to underground artists, providing them with a supportive, creative space to thrive. That Good Sh*t is an independent music creation platform by The One & Only Annabelle Kline, which seeks to boost small artists through showcase opportunities and social media promotion. Together, Annabelle of That Good Sh*t and Barry from Green Tea Studios have built an authentic and impactful showcase concert series that gets better every time.

As I entered Sunday Sounds, a sizable crowd was already gathered at the stage. DJ Selfish Irv was spinning, blunts were being passed, I decided it was the perfect time to get some food. Taco Punx, an LA-born concert-loving taco house, was there serving up sizzling tacos and mulitas. Also keeping the good vibes flowing was a $10 all-you-can-drink open bar, manned by a lone brave soldier who kept the crowd of at least 150 quenched all night long. As I perused the creative vendor section, I was introduced to some truly awesome companies. Charlie Brady was present with his notorious “If I Miss This Jumpshot I’ll Kill Myself” Nike inspired tee available for purchase, as well as Los Angeles based clothing companies Musive Culture and C10UD, proudly repping their brands. Another interesting vendor I came across was CLARISMA BEAUTY, a skincare brand that harnesses the power of fruit enzymes.

The performances at Sunday Sounds were fantastic. Artists took the stage with great spirits, and each performer's stage presence felt effortless and natural. Some of my personal favorite performers included Selina, her performance of “16” (my favorite song of hers) had the whole audience swaying sentimentally. Florida hailing Flozigg lit the place on fire, a self-described “introvert”, his sweeping falsetto and stage persona, throughout his entire performance, made me feel like I was looking at someone who will be a household name sooner in the years to come. Amaria took the stage next, joined by talented harpist Sara Kawai, I have been wanting to see this artist live for a long time. Pookie has been a fan of Amaria for some time, and her live set solidified my listener loyalty. Her voice was angelic, the audience suspended in an acoustic sound bath of her vocals and fluttering harp phrases, she performed fan-favorite “Moon” and some unreleased tracks including one titled “Can’t Help Myself”. Mallory Merk, Sunday Sound’s coveted headliner, entered the stage in a skeleton onesie armed with acoustic and electric guitars. She swapped back and forth between the two, displaying her honed artistry as she accompanied herself through performances of songs “Ghosts” and “Thorns”. Ending the night on an intimate note, Mallory Merk closed out the 7th official Sunday Sounds LA show. Sunday Sounds, by That Good Sh*t and Green Tea Studios, has grown into something truly remarkable and undeniably powerful. The artists performing at these events leave with a multitude of new fans, gaining exposure and confidence in an accepting and encouraging atmosphere.
