It’s a gloomy Friday here in Los Angeles. It rained last night for the first time in a long time, very much needed. The sky is washed out and gray. It’s refreshing for a place like LA, known for its sunshine and warmth all year long. Christian Leave, former Vine-star turned bedroom-pop pundit, has topped off this pleasantly somber day by releasing his latest single “Pull”. Laden with strings, Christian’s grainy, fluid vocal calmly croons a tale about changes of heart and letting go. Listen to the track right here right now.
“I feel the pull on your side of the bed / I know you don’t wanna put up a fight / So we don’t have to”, these are the sensitive lines of the chorus of “Pull”, the newly released track from 22 year old multi-disciplinary artist Christian Leave. As far as the meaning behind the song, Christian shares, “‘Pull’ is an empathetic letter to the development and change inside or outside of a relationship”. Leave goes on, “As hectic as it may be to feel and experience on the receiving end, we’re all constantly facing transition. I had to learn to take a step back and allow myself to grow in tandem rather than fight against things outside of my own control. This is me reconciling with my own changes.” The production is centered around a soothing, percussive guitar rhythm, followed by building layers of orchestral pieces. Christian Leave’s textured vocal carries the listener’s ears through the compassionate qualms of a relationship, while a white noise filter makes the whole track feel like "Pull" was recorded through a voicemail. A nice personal touch.
Now is a great time to be a Christian Leave fan. He’s got a busy schedule for the next few months. “Pull” acts as the preamble to Leave’s upcoming EP titled “Superstar” out November 4th. The Texan/born, now LA based artist is also headlining a show at the legendary Moroccan Lounge in DTLA on November 30th. November is the month of Christian Leave, and Pookie is definitely down for it. Be a smart cookie, listen to “Pull” by Christian Leave, and make sure you buy tickets to his upcoming show, if it’s not already sold out. Peace.
