"STAR KILLER" BY CURTIS WATERS IS THE SONG FOR YOUR AMERICAN DYSTOPIAN SUMMER

Updated: Sep 17, 2022

The Kathmandu-born artist, producer, and cool kid has blessed us with his third record of 2022. Open your ears and let the uninhibited emotion of Curtis Waters take you to the next level.

Curtis Waters is the moment. And rightfully so. At just 22 years old, this alt. pop wizard has already garnered 1.5 million monthly listeners, and amassed hundreds of millions of streams across his impressive catalogue. And now, he’s back in action. Releasing yet another delectable single, along with a stunning music video, “STAR KILLER” is the perfect pop-meets-punk anthem for your American dystopian summer.

2 minutes and 3 seconds of frustration and catharsis, lead by an electric guitar part that reminds me of Blink-182’s “All The Small Things“, this track delineates exactly how it feels to be a young person bogged down by today’s capitalist society, and most importantly the powerful rush of elation that follows when we realize: fuck it. Curtis Waters, sporting a 9:00-to-5:00 suit and tie with a crimson star over his left eye, (bars) definitely said fuck it as he blows up a beachfront industrial power plant in the “STAR KILLER” music video, a JAILHOUSE film directed by Angel Orozco. The Nepalese-American artist is pictured escaping the confines of his dream-sucking office, before reducing the whole establishment to puny smithereens in a marvelous explosion. Boom. Freedom At Last.

With lyrics such as “you ain’t a man you a fucking politician” and “you’d go to hell just to get to your position”, Waters takes aim at our elected officials and their all too prevalent wickedness. Then the chorus hits, and the artist ascends into the most authentic version of himself: one that is completely unhinged and unbound. Boisterous garage drums, laser beam noises, and Curtis Waters’s energetic vocal come together to free us from darkness and lift us up into the light. Move past the heaviness of current events and unleash your potential.

Born in Nepal, and having lived in Canada and Germany before ultimately settling down in the States, Curtis Waters is a verified Man of the World. The musician and producer is known for concocting high-energy, expressive tracks full of complimentary textures and moving parts. Waters recently relocated to Hollywood, and Pookie was hot enough to witness His Greatness perform live in the flesh a few weeks ago at Baaderhouse for Everything Is Punk, an awesome night brought to us in Los Angeles by the wonderful people at Make Out Music. With “STAR KILLER” being Curtis’s third release of 2022, Pookie is already ready for more music from this fantastic artist, and hopefully we’ll have more run-ins with Curtis Waters very soon. Until Next Time.
