Kid Sistr has outdone themselves once more with their newly released single "T-shirt", cementing themselves as Los Angeles's (& Pookie's) personal favorite ascending girl group. Peep the music video and watch these phenomenal ladies take on a beach day in LA.
Amazing women are everywhere. Especially in LA. And there are three especially amazing women by the names of Sara, Becca, and Sabel, who also happen to be a fully female alternative rock-pop band called Kid Sistr that's really fucking cool. Their name comes from a unique similarity that each member shares: they are each elder siblings to at least one younger sister, hence Kid Sistr. Originally from the East Coast, the band has relocated to the Southland and we're so glad they did.
Their latest single "T-shirt" is truly awesome. The song is effervescent, free, and nostalgic, with a chunk of grittiness that you'll find in the lyrics and in the textures of the guitars. The instrumentation is phenomenal, the drums are comfortable yet energizing, and the guitars are the perfect vessel for the sentiment in this track. Peeking at the lyrics, it feels like the band took a romantic approach to their writing in this one, supplying us with mental images of vivid colors, familiar controlled substances, and articles of removed clothing. The chorus sucks me in every time and I happily allow it. The vocal is completely mesmerizing, paired with complimenting layers and layers of guitars and an enamored drum arrangement, it carries the ear breezily to new heights. The group has an affinity for fusing elements of top 40s bubblegum pop, 80's new wave, and mercurial alt rock, all taken with the approach of seasoned songwriters. Which would explain why I love every Kid Sistr record I hear.
The band has been making music together since 2019, which is also when they garnered their first golden sliver of recognition on the indie music scene. Counting Crows' own Adam Duritz personally asked the group to perform at his annual Underwater Sunshine Festival, and add to that a few other high-brow bookings, Kid Sistr has been forging a way for themselves ever since, and we're all here for it. Band members Sara and Becca have been making music together since middle school, when they met in an after-school music program. The pair tried forming bands for some years after but nothing came to fruition. That is until Sara met Sabel at The University of Miami, where both were studying music. These three have been Kid Sistr ever since. Check out Kid Sistr's awesome new track "T-shirt" and their accompanying music video to go along with it, and get to know LA's greatest girl group on the rise.
